Every desktop or notebook or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software that interacts with the hardware equipment, including peripherals such as a mouse and a printer, and any apps that are currently installed on the system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a web server, every single application runs within the parameters established by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, and so on. This goes for both standard site scripts and server-side software like a media server. When a virtual server is created on a physical one, there can be two different Operating Systems, called guest OS and host OS, so you'll be able to set up a different software environment on the same machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
In case you choose one of our VPS server solutions, you'll have 3 different Operating Systems to pick from - CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu. They're all Linux distributions and we offer them instead of offering just one OS, since the applications that you may want to run on the server may have specific requirements regarding the software environment. Each one of these three has certain pros in terms of the available packages that you could later on install, but what's common between them is the fact that they are really stable and reliable and have huge communities which support them. The internet hosting Control Panel choices for the VPS accounts depend on your OS choice, so as to provide you with more flexibility. If you order the virtual server with one OS and you need a different one later, our technical support team can easily reinstall the VPS with the new one in a couple of minutes. We also offer you the option to keep the Operating System on your server up-to-date on a weekly basis.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server plans - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They are all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're freely available and they will not increase the cost of your new hosting server, but also because they are extremely secure and stable. Each one of them is supported by a big community of developers, so you will be able to choose from thousands of software packages that you could install on your server in case the app that you want to work with has specific requirements. The Operating System will also determine what hosting Control Panel you can use because the Control Panels that we offer run on particular OSs only and since we want to give you as much adaptability as possible, we offer multiple OSs and multiple Control Panels. In case you get a server with a given Operating System, we could change it upon request if it turns out that you need alternative one. We could also keep your OS updated on a weekly basis as a part of our additional Managed Services upgrade.
